Ernakulam will get a new face for tourism. The state government has sanctioned Rs 5 lakh
to the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) for constructing an Onam theme park at Kakkanad.

The park is coming up on 30 cents of land belonging to the Greater Cochin Development Authority on the SeaportAirport Road where the Mavelipuram Park is currently situated.

“The park will have statues of Mahabali and Vamanan . It will also a showcase for how Onam is celebrated in Kerala. It will be an ideal getaway for families and tourists, from outside. The park, the first one in the state with Onam as its theme, would be developed by the DTPC with GCDA support.

The DTPC also has plans to open a national museum of Onam and a pilgrim centre near the famous Thrikkakara Temple. The government had also sanctioned another Rs 55 lakh for developing Kooramala near Elanji into a tourist spot. Work on both the projects would begin soon and is expected to be completed in six months. The tourists will get a new experience about Kerala culture.
