Mudumalai Tiger Reserve reels under drought

The situation here at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve has become a prime cause for concern to the Forest Department. Exceptional drought is keeping the Forest
Departments officials very busy in this Reserve near here. Enquires made by the Hindu revealed that only certain sub areas will be affected during the dry months, but the recent year the case is going to be worse as the entire Reserve extending to over 321 sq km is going to suffer. 

Migration
The bearings have become a cause for affair to the Forest Department and environmentalists as the conditions could activate a beginning of bushfires. Migration of animals in seek of baptize and beginning frondescence has begun. P.J.Vasanthan a conservationist said that he was seeing this Tiger Reserve in such a worse condition for the very first time. 

He also added that some animals as he had seen there were very clearly withered. Many animals from the Moyar allotment of the Reserve are coming to the channel to quench their thirst which flows from Maravakandy to the Moyar Dam. 

He also pointed out that sighting of animals in the area has become frequent, regretting that the dishonest tour operators were exploiting the situations, due to this the animals are getting disturbed also.

The current weather conditions have made the environs intensely dry and leafless. Since the bearings in the Sigur and Gudalur forests abutting the MTR was as well appropriately bad, the human-wild beastly battle has escalated and instances of elephants damaging houses are getting frequently reported.

 This year even perennial water sources have dried up says A. Ameer Haja, in regard to this and to prevail such situation a plan of action to deal with any demand has put in place. 

Officials, including 100 blaze watchers, have been instructed to be in a state of active round the clock. Since the necessary areas forth the road which cuts through the assets are awful accessible to bushfires, highway patrol has been intensified. 

Five cars accept been assuredly stationed in the Theppakadu, Kargudi, Masinagudy, Mudumalai and Nellakotai ranges of the Reserve to accredit the officials to acknowledge bound to emergencies. 

Water tankers have as well been stationed at acceptable places. In accession to the fire fighting accessories in the MTR, appropriate tools to control fires have been acquired from Kerala.

Fire curve have been extended. In February, four bushfires had torn out but all of them had been put out before they could cause abundant damage.
