It received the award for encouraging the visitors to the state for their smallest of the efforts in preserving the valuable rain forests in the state.
The print campaign showed how a small act like postponing a hotel laundry could help sustain rain forests.
The advertisement was released on the 27th of September 2012 and it
displayed the Kerala’s pristine hills on the towels with a wonderful message saying
“A simple act can wipe away more than you can imagine," thus reminding the
travelers into the state in a unique way travelers "to put our simple acts
together, every time we travel". This unique idea lifted the award in the
press services, as said by the state tourism press on Thursday.
The olive crown award is given by the Indian chapter of
International Advertising Association (IAA), which appreciates the efforts in
communicating sustainability.
Suman Billa, the state tourism secretary said that the tourism
sector was committed towards the sustainable tourism and the cooperation of its
visitors to the state was also a very essential part of this.
He said, "We firmly believe in the partnership between
travelers and the trade towards conserving and preserving our nature," and
also added "it would take only simple actions by travelers to show that
they care for nature."
The state tourism campaign got hype as it was chosen against the
other entries coming from the other Asian countries. Adding another feather to
the cap of the state tourism was the national award for the best rural tourism
going to the Kumarakom’s responsible tourism model that has emerged successful
in linking the local community to the hospitality sector and thus setting a
wonderful example of eco-friendly tourism.
The Kerala tourism
director Rani George quoted "Sustainability is at the centre of Kerala's
tourism development model," and also further remarked, “"Sustainability
