Kerala Boat Race that is held yearly in the
Backwaters of Alleppey and the close by areas will be supported by Ministry of
Tourism, Government of India.
The State Government of Kerala will donate
an amount of Rs.17.50 lakhs for the yearly event along with a matching amount
from the Union Tourism Ministry announced Mr. K. Chiranjeevi, Union Tourism
Minister on the occasion of the beginning of 61st boat race in
Alleppey.
On the event along with many prominent
leaders, Nikhil Kumar Governor of Kerala installed the race while PWD Minister
of Kerala State Mr. V K Ibrahim Kunju lifted the flag. Mr. Kodikunnil Suresh,
Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Government of India, Mr.
Kodikunnil Suresh was also present.
A stipulation of Rs. 47.62 crores shall be
made by the Tourism Ministry for the Mega Alleppey Backwater Development
project publicized by Mr. Chiranjeevi.
The Backwaters of the Kerala and the annual
Boat race have immense tourism potential, he added.
To make the backwaters of Kerala much
sought after destination every effort are being made by the Tourism Ministry
for turning it into a global destination for backwaters cruise.
