Goa Police to Seriously Act Over Illegal Stay of Foreign Nationals

The Foreigner’s Branch of the Goa police is very active these days, collecting information(fest)
of foreigners, including Nigerians, who are without travel documents by looking for verifications from various police stations all over the state.  

By doing so, the Foreigner’s Branch of Goa police are preparing a list, which would mention the names and the crimes committed by such illegally staying foreigners, which would be sent to the respective Embassies.

Deputy Inspector General of Police O.P. Mishra stated that the 52 Nigerians arrested in blocking and riot case in October 31 have been granted bail, out of which, only 11 of them have been released till now, as they had fulfilled all the conditions of bail including the submission of their travel documents for verification. The rest are still in custody and would only be released when the clear all the legal formalities.

Inspection

Mr. Mishra also said that as for the verification of the documents, inspection of documents of the entire 52 Nigerians is in process. 

After acquiring the list of those who are unable to submit their legal travel documents, details of these people would be sent to various police stations of the state to look for details of the crimes registered against them and the list would be arranged.

“As soon as we get the complete evidence, we would forward the list to authorities in order to act further,” Mr. Mishra said.

According to the sources in the police, the next step would be to send the list of those who are illegally staying, to Nigerian Embassy through the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The issue of illegal staying of Nigerians along with other foreigners living in the state came under surveillance after a recent murder of a Nigerian at Parra in north coastal Goa on October 30. The murder led to riot by fellow Nigerians and over 150 of them took over violent protests.

Following this incidence, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that all the foreign nationals who are illegally staying and are involved in various illegal activities would be extradited.
