Bastion Bungalow in Fort Kochi along with 4
other major buildings in Kerala will be converted into heritage museums very
soon.
Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Bastion Bungalow in Kochi on Saturday. He made it clear that the finances that will be required for this venture have been already allocated in advance.

Chammany and Ernakulam District Collector PI Sheikh Pareeth were some of the
important personalities present at the foundation ceremony.
The Sreepaadam Palace in Thiruvananthapuram,
Kollamkode Palace in Thrissur, Velu Thampi Dalava Memorial building in
Pathanamthitta and Pazhassi’s Tomb in Wayanad are the four other buildings that
will get the heritage statuses. A huge amount of Rs. 14 crores is estimated to
be spent on the whole project.
KC Joseph, Minister for Cultural Affairs said that the main motive of
the project is to transform these historical structures and kerala culture into educational
centers. It will not only benefit Kerala Tourism Industry but also offer the
people advantageous educational tours. Tourists in particular will get more
insight into the rich heritage of the state.
He further assured that ultra modern techniques will be implemented to
enhance the beauty of the buildings. However, while applying such advanced
methods, no change or harm will be done to the original structures. The
Minister believes that the original ruins of these historical buildings are the
real asset and must not be affected whatsoever.
The Minister further said that a committee of experts will be organized
at Fort Kochi that will discuss on the proper renovation of these heritage
properties to make them more lively and attractive. The Government will try
their best to clean and add more attractions to the buildings while retaining
their authenticity.
A sum of Rs. 5.40 crores have been already allocated for the Bastion
Bungalow in advance. Modern techniques like Touch Screens will be installed in
the building. The museum park of Bastion Bungalow will be decorated with
several exquisite sculptures depicting the traditional heritage of Kochi.
Moreover audio guiding system in all major languages along with expert guides
will be offered in the museum for the proper and convincing tour. This way the
tourists will not have trouble getting around the museum and shall enjoy their
trip to the fullest.
