The colorful
state of Kerala is a set to go online to showcase the magnificent ritual art of
Theyyam. The Kerala tourism has taken
up the step for the first time to stream live this performance art of the Malabar origin.

The state tourism has arranged to stream the
live performance of theyyam on the web that is a two day performance to be held
at the annual festival of the Kozhunthumpadi Vellor temple near Payyannur.
This will enable
the lovers of art form all across the globe to experience the ritual in the
real time on their gadgets. The telecast has been supported by the telecom
partner of the webcast BSNL.
On the first day
i.e. Monday, the performance will be webcast form 5pm to 11 pm and on the next
day from 9am in the morning till 11pm in the evening. The viewers can also watch
it on the official website of Kerala tourism i.e. www.keralatoursm.org and also
on www.youtube.com
A total of 16
performances are said to be webcast using five HD cameras (to ensure the
quality of the webcast) mounted on cranes to give a stage like experience to
the viewers, as reported by one of the officials.
Various themes
have been provided for the webcast such as the include ‘Sree Bhootham,’
‘Kuttichatthan,’ ‘Vishnumoorthi,’ ‘Madayil Chamundi,’ and ‘Gulikan.’M.r. A.P.
Anil Kumar, honorable minister of tourism in India remarked, “It is a
significant event in the cultural calendar of Indian tourism,”
Mr. Suman Billa,
the secretary of the Kerala tourism said that the state was well known for the
various art forms such as the Kathakali and the art lovers have always
appreciated the Malayali art and the tourism department was looking to take the
art form not only to the to the Malayali Diaspora but also to the global
audience.
“It will be a
singularly personal experience we are proud to be part of,” were the words of
the director of the Kerala tourism, Rani George.
The state is
filled with plenty of the cultural events round the calendar and the famous
Kochi-Muziris Biennale festival is also going on at this time.
The state
tourism has organized many cultural events this year such as the Hay Literary
Festival, annual international theatre festival in Thrissur and Kerala
International Film Festival in Thiruvananthapuram etc. to attract the
intellectual as well as the cultural tourists to the state.
