Kerala's rural tourism project wins India's national award

Kerala rural tourism project won the (NABRTP) National Award for Best Rural Tourism Project in Kumarakom
area which linked the local society to hospitality Industry diligence. 

The secretary of Kerala Tourism Mr., Suman Billa received the NABRTP award on Monday at the ceremony held on Vijaya Bhawan from the President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee.

Kerala tourism under the Kumarakom Rural Tourism Project has moved forward gradually with self help Kudumbashree in selling fruits and vegetables to the visitors. They are run by their units in hotels and restaurants of the area to buy goods produced from the local community. 

Kumarakom has also been rewarded Vivanta for the best four star hotel category, coconut creek farm and home stay, Kumarakom for accommodation establishment by Taj. Kerala gained its success in receiving three categories National Tourism Awards in the year 2011 to 2012.

Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort in Chowara close to the capital city, Thiruvananthapuram won the best Wellness centre award and the best approved inbound tour operator and travel agent category was won by the Pioneer Personalized Holidays.
