In order to develop Haryana into a meetings and convention destination, the Haryana government will structure
convention and conferencing facilities around the existing tourist complexes in different destinations in the state. The scheme of development was revealed by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister, Government of Haryana, while inaugurating the second convention of Hotel & Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRANI) in Gurgaon. Haryana Tourism operates 42 tourism complexes with accommodation services. The Chief Minister said that in order to improve tourism facilities of the State, the state government has planned growth of Heritage Hotels by converting forts, amusement parks and integrated tourism park on Public –Private – Partnership (PPP). He also added that an inclusion of resort is being proposed at Madhogarh Fort in Haryana with private sector support.

The Chief Minister further added that the State has identified Eco-Tourism, MICE Tourism, Medical Tourism, and Golf Tourism as major segments of travel and tourism for promotion in the state.
He said that recognizing the potential of religious tourism in Kurukshetra, the state government is planning to promote Kurukshetra as a Religious Tourism hub in the State. As to the potential of the place, the state government is scheming to set up the replica of Tirupati temple, Iskon temple, and Akshardham temple in Kurukshetra.
As Haryana had no natural tourism sites, the Chief Minister said that the state had structured several artificial sites, which have become popular tourist attractions. The CM stated, “Haryana was the pioneer in Highway Tourism in the country.”

Later speaking to TravelBiz Monitor, Vijai Vardhan, Principal Secretary-Tourism, Culture, Museums and Archaeology, Haryana, informed that convention facilities have already been set up as part of the Tourism complexes in Rohtak, Faridabad, and Surajkund, and also that work is in progress in Panchkula and Hisar.
While Panchkula will be completed within three months’ time, Vardhan said that the work for planned convention centre at Hisar has already been initiated and will be concluded in two years’ time.
He also informed that these centres will have capacity to hold around 1,000 people, and also that the number of accommodation units at all these complexes are small, and if the need arises with the setting up of convention centres, the government would plan at adding up room inventory.
