THE ALAPPUZHA DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION HAS DECIDED TO HIKE HOUSEBOATS' FARE

The Alappuzha district administration has decided to hike the minimum tariff
of houseboats. The new houseboat tariff will come into force from March 24.

As per these new rates, the daily rent for a single bedroom has been hiked from `6,000 to `7,000 while the double bedroom rate has been hiked from `8,000 to `10,500. The new rates were approved by the both houseboat owners and employees.

The daily rent for a three-bedroom houseboat has been fixed at `14,000. General Secretary, All-Kerala Houseboat Owners Association (AKHOA), said that earlier the AKHOA had submitted a proposal demanding hike to the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).The recent decision comes after a meeting held in the presence of Collector and representatives of houseboat employees and owners. As many as 900 houseboats are currently operating on the Punnamada backwaters.
