of houseboats. The new houseboat tariff will come into force from March 24.
As per these new rates, the daily
rent for a single bedroom has been hiked from `6,000 to `7,000 while the double
bedroom rate has been hiked from `8,000 to `10,500. The new rates were approved
by the both houseboat owners and employees.
The daily rent for a three-bedroom
houseboat has been fixed at `14,000. General Secretary, All-Kerala Houseboat
Owners Association (AKHOA), said that earlier the AKHOA had submitted a
proposal demanding hike to the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).The recent
decision comes after a meeting held in the presence of Collector and representatives
of houseboat employees and owners. As many as 900 houseboats are currently
operating on the Punnamada backwaters.
